Workshops & Outreach

I like teaching creative stuff!

I am available for running fun sessions on creative writing, storytelling, and biodiversity for your school or your community group. All sessions can be tailored to suit your needs. I have a teaching qualification, full enhanced CRB disclosure, and sessions can include singing!

I am based in Greater Manchester and can travel anywhere within Northern of England (from the Peak District all the way up to Hadrian’s Wall).

Current Projects

POSTCARDS FROM PRESTON
I’m currently working with They Eat Culture and Deafway. I am inputting into storytelling workshops and assisting animateur Phillipa. These workshops are for British Sign Language users at Deafway to celebrate Preston Guild 2012. For more information, and to book tickets for the event, see: Postcards from Preston.

Pedagogic Approach

I have a strong belief in non-coercive education. I believe in facilitating learning through participatory activities which engage both adults and children.

Teaching and Training Experience

I have a PGCE in post-compulsory education and over ten years experience of delivering teaching and training for students, volunteers, and work colleagues. This experience of teaching, training, and assessment has been gained within both informal and formal educational settings. I have taught: creative writing, literacy, English Language and Literature. I have also delivered trained in the following topics: sustainable living, biodiversity, EFL, health & social policy, corporate power, how to use the media, and child safeguarding.

I have facilitated opportunities for others to develop English language skills in both formal and informal educational settings. I have also organised teaching sessions for children which have focussed on improving English and writing skills.

I have worked with Action for Sustainable Living, delivering workshops on sustainable living for primary schools in Greater Manchester. I have also run creative writing sessions for children to explore their own environmental concerns in a Stockport primary school. I also volunteer as an Eco Schools Assessor.

Professional Membership

I am a member of The Poetry Society, and am recently a member of The Society for Storytelling.
